On the ball

Imagine standing on a basketball court with the roar of the crowd surrounding you. The game is about to start, and the pressure to perform is all on you.

Stood before a crowd of fans, there’s the expectation of success, not only about the result of the game, but also on the way you play it. If it weren’t for your team members standing either side of you, the pressure could easily become too much.

These scenarios are something the Harlem Globetrotters know all too well. Formed in 1926, they were initially based in Chicago and drawn together to entertain crowds at the city’s Savoy Ballroom. For 88 years now they’ve been travelling the world, showcasing their unique combination of athleticism, comedy and flawless teamwork.

World champions

After competing in (and winning) the World Professional Basketball Tournament in 1940, the team decided to showcase their sporting prowess and developed entertaining routines that feature incredible coordination along with the skilful handling of more than one basketball at a time.

Crowds clearly respond positively to this entertainment-based approach as they’ve now played over 20,000 exhibition matches in more than 120 countries, and continue to perform around the world on a regular basis. The team continues to grow and develop, with new players joining the ranks alongside honorary members such as Whoopi Goldberg, Lionel Messi, and Pope John Paul II.

Teamwork

Despite the number of talented individuals that make up the Globetrotters, it’s the teamwork and show-stopping coordination that continues to draw thousands of people to every game. It’s the way that each player works hard to make sure they are in the right place, at the right time to support their teammates that ensures the success of each routine.

Keeping our eye on the ball

At 14forty, we never take our eye off the ball. We know what flawless teamwork looks like, we know how to deliver an amazing performance and, above all, we know that it’s down to great people, working together.
